Wintertango 2011, which takes place at the Hornsjø mountain resort, is all about good music and a great social atmosphere, where everyone will get to dance “a lot with many”. Think of an intimate milonga setting where understated dance movements are more appropriate than high boleos; this event will suit everyone who likes to be able to dance in harmony with the other dancers on the floor. Rather than classes, there are practicas during the day and milongas in the evening, all with music provided by two DJs

For those who’d like to take a break from tango during the day, there is great cross country skiing on prepared tracks in the Hornsjø area. Downhill skiing is available at Hafjell/ Øyer, 16 kms from the hotel (downhill equipment can be hired at Hafjell). The hotel has a swimming pool and sauna.

Travel

Lillehammer is 180 km north of Oslo and can be reached by road (E6) or rail. There is a train to Lillehammer from Gardermoen/Oslo airport every hour.

From Lillehammer to Hornsjø:

• On Friday it is possible to ski from Lillehammer to Hornsjø (with luggage being sent by car to the hotel). Skiers should take the 13.00 bus from the train station to Nordseter (35 minutes) and then ski with the group on prepared tracks on easy terrain for 13 km or so before arriving at Hornsjø
• By car, there’s a good mountain road from Øyer (15 km north of Lillehammer) to Hornsjø – 18 km. This is a toll road which costs NOK 30.
  NB! Follow the clear road signs towards Hornsjø – don’t go via Pellestova as this road to Hornsjø is closed during winter time
• For those arriving by train on Friday, there will be free transport with private cars from the station at 15.15 and 16.30. Please contact us beforehand if you would like a lift so that we can organise enough cars. We can also provide transport back to Lillehammer after lunch on Sunday

Cost

• Fee for participants: NOK 200 per person
  (non-refundable in case of cancellation).
• Accommodation: NOK 1300 per person in double room.
  Full board (including breakfast, lunch/ packed lunch for skiers, dinner, evening snack, welcome drink and aperitif) from Friday afternoon to Sunday lunch.
• Single room supplement: NOK 200

There will be a full bar available at the hotel, as well as free tea and coffee throughout the weekend.

If you would like to arrive in advance of, or stay on after the Vintertango, please let us know and we will make the necessary arrangements with the hotel.

We have 50 double rooms at our disposal, and in order to accommodate as many people as possible, participants are encouraged to sign up to share double rooms.

1. Fill in and send the registration form. In order to ensure a balance between the number of men and women, we recommend that participants register with a dance partner. However, individual dancers can choose to go on a ‘waiting list’ so that their registration can be confirmed once the correct balance of men and women has been achieved.
2. When you receive confirmation of your registration from Tango Banco, you will be asked to forward the registration fee of NOK 200 per person.
3. When your registration fee has been received, your name will appear on the list of participants – this is the official confirmation of your registration.

The Hotel

For most of the last century, Hornsjø was the biggest and most fashionable mountain resort hotel in Norway, with the main building being a fine example of 1960s architecture. The rapid development of winter resorts with ski-lifts and downhill facilities in the 1970s put a stop to its leading position as a tourist resort. Now the hotel is owned and run by an international organisation, The Travelling Folk High School, and staffed by students from as far afield as Zimbabwe, Lithuania, and Spain.
