Levels
We urge you to be sensible when assessing your own level. Please resist the very human temptation to sign up for
classes you suspect are above your level. You will get less, not more, out of attending such a class, even if you manage
to execute the material. More importantly, you will pull down the entire group. It is far better to work on a level where
you can grasp the material fully – this will give you insights you cannot get any other way. (Text borrowed from Tango 59°
Stockholm City)
Absolute beginners (Drop-in): You have no prior experience of tango, or you have perhaps attended a introductory class.
Beginners: You have attended a beginners class or two and been dancing for some time. You are comfortable with the
basic level of moving from ochos, giros, the cross, opposite (cross system) and parallel feet.
Intermediate: You feel comfortable with the basics and are working on intermediate tango elements
(gancho, barridas and boleos)and dance in both open and close embrace. You have no problems with balance.
Advanced: You are an experienced dancer who feel equally confident in tango, vals and milonga.
You have good grasp of musicality and you can improvise with elements like boleos, ganchos, colgadas and volcadas.
